Grade Options:
Depending on the terrain of your property we offer several options so you can get the look you are after.
Probably the single most important factor in determining how your fence looks is the top grading. The idea is to try to visualize your fence ahead of time. Look at the pictures below for examples of the different options. Most people like a level and/or uniform top. Unfortunately, most yards are not level. This means we must make some decisions.
When you look at a fence your eye naturally follows the top of the fence. It is important that the top be as fluid as possible so that your eye follows the top without hanging up on specific grade changes. This can be done in several ways. Typically at Premier Fence we top cut our fences to attain a more fluid top.
In some cases where the ground grades are uniform and possible space under the fence is not a problem, AIRLINE grading is a good choice. Basically we grade the top from point A to B. This makes a straight top that is not necessarily level but a nice even grade. Airline and level provides the nicest top while still keeping most of the height.
Another method is STAIR STEP grading. A level top is achieved by stepping the top as the fence goes up a hill. Some height is lost with this method.
The most popular method is to run the fence to GRADE of the ground. This keeps more height and the fence closer to the ground. We cut the top of the fence to provide a smoother top.
